WHY has the volunteer committee process changed?

Volunteers fill a key role for AzPA by helping to operationalize our strategic plans. Therefore, collecting standardized information about our volunteers will allow staff and committee chairs to better utilize our members' skills and interests within the committee. Overall, our hope is this process will result in improved communication and effectiveness within the AzPA volunteer community.

WHAT is the process of becoming an AzPA volunteer?

To be considered for an AzPA volunteer committee, you must submit an AzPA Volunteer Application through your membership portal page by clicking HERE.

Once your application has been submitted online, our AzPA volunteer coordinator will review the data and assign the volunteer to their requested committee project or reach out regarding a better committee that may suit the volunteer.

After staff has reviewed your application, you will be assigned to a committee project within AzPA's volunteer platform & will have access to the committee(s) portal page.

General FAQs

Do I have to be a member of AzPA to volunteer?
Expand

Yes! Please ensure your AzPA membership is current and stays active throughout your entire commitment on the committee. If your membership lapses for more than 15 days, you will be temporarily removed from the committee until you renew your membership.

Is there a possibility my application to volunteer will not be approved?
Expand

This is not likely except if the application window is closed or if, after talking to AzPA staff, you feel you cannot fulfil the volunteer committee responsibilities and/or another committee may be better suited to the member.

  • Students: Can serve on the Membership/Marketing, Legislative, PharmPAC, and ad hok Task Force Committees
  • Education Committee does requires some advanced knowledge of CPE development. CLICK HERE to learn about the responsibilities/qualifications.

Can I apply and/or participate in more than one volunteer committee?
Expand

Yes! If you have additional time to dedicate to the AzPA volunteer community, please submit a separate application for each committee. Each committee has a different schedule so you will never have to worry about overlapping times.

Can I join a volunteer committee after the cycle has begun?
Expand

The volunteer committee application will be open in the month of July or August. Applications received after the posted deadline will be reviewed and accepted on a case-by-case basis depending on the needs of the committee.

I need hours for school and/or my employer. Can timesheet documents be provided by AzPA?
Expand

Yes! As a volunteer, AzPA can approve a timesheet based upon committee meeting attendance.

What if I am unable to attend a virtual committee meeting? Does AzPA Volunteer Commitment Terms include attendance and/or time requirements to volunteer?
Expand

For AzPA committees to be effective, we ask everyone to commit to attending and participating in at least 75% of the monthly meetings. Unless a special project is assigned, we do not require volunteers to reach out to their committee chair or staff liaison unless you anticipate missing more than 1 consecutive meeting. AzPA may remove members from committees that are not regularly participating.

I cannot commit to a regular volunteer schedule. Can I still volunteer?
Expand

Yes! Depending on your availability as a volunteer, we have a few sub-committees who do not meet regularly that may fit your needs. Such committees are the Special Event Planning Committee, and PharmPAC

Will I need to reapply for a volunteer committee each cycle?
Expand

Yes! But given your account information is up to date, the AzPA Volunteer Application will prepopulate some of the key details included in the application.

Do you have volunteer opportunities on the weekends?
Expand

The Volunteer Committees meet M-F. There may be special projects and volunteer opportunities outside of the standing committees. Those will be advertised in our biweekly newsletter and the Member portal.

What if I am a member but do not remember my login information?
Expand

Members can reset their password by clicking 'Having trouble logging in?' located on the Account Login page HERE.

What if I have additional questions?
Expand

Please email Marques Bottorf, Membership & Volunteer Services - marques@azpharmacy.org

Can I get involved within a volunteer committee as a student pharmacist?
Expand

Yes! AzPA encourages all our student members to participate within a volunteer committee. Legislative Affairs, Membership/Marketing Committees would be best suited for student pharmacist members. Mentor Connection and Education Committees require more practice experience so are not recommended for student pharmacists.

What is the time commitment required to participate in an AzPA Volunteer Committee?
Expand

Volunteer committees meet once a month from September through May of each year. AzPA requests volunteers to participate at minimum, each month, during the virtual meeting time. When able, we also ask our volunteers to accept at least one special assignment tailored to the success of the committee as their schedules permit.

What is the difference between applying to be a Mentor/Mentee in the Mentor Connection Program and volunteering on the Mentor Connection Program Committee?
Expand

  • Mentor Connection Program: This 9-month long program cycle runs October - June annually and pairs Mentees (student pharmacists, residents, and technicians) with practicing and experienced Mentors (pharmacists, technicians). The Mentor and Mentee are encouraged to meet as frequently as monthly via mode of choice (virtual, email, phone, or in-person). The program typically culminates with the AzPA Annual Convention where mentees and mentors can meet and enjoy the meeting as well as continue the relationship development in a meaningful way. If you want to learn more about the program, visit the Mentor Connection Program page here.
  • Mentor Connection Program (MCP) Committee: This is an AzPA Volunteer Committee that oversees the Mentor Connection Program. The committee consists of current and prior MCP Mentors. The committee is responsible for reviewing MCP application submissions and pairing mentees with mentors, developing discussion topics and background materials for both mentors & mentees, evaluate application process, and plan marketing and recruiting efforts at various AzPA sponsored events.
